Restoration of Octroi Post, Sirsi Circle, by INTACH Bengaluru Chapter, in collaboration with Mineral Enterprises Limited for Bengaluru City Police. This structure was built as an Octroi Post to collect tolls on goods entering the city! One of the initial works was to excavate and remove heaps of debris all around and inside the building(notice how it was over the window sills too!). Only after that were the plinth and the original flooring of the structure exposed to be examined and then restored. A protective stone flagging was provided around the plinth. Deteriorated lime plaster on walls was carefully removed and replastered in traditional lime mortar. All doors and windows were restored in teakwood, maintaining integrity in design. Deteriorated waterproofing, the old Madras terrace’s brickwork, the deteriorated rafters were carefully dismantled. Fresh, sturdy and new rafters are installed cautiously. Queen closer (half-cut) brickbats are placed on the rafters diagonally, with lime mortar as the adhesive. Lime waterproofing coats the terrace and brick parapets border the entire ensemble. Stitching of structural cracks using heliflix method was incorporated in the restoration process as well
