Kutch is a region perhaps more known for its wildlife or the devastating earthquake of Bhuj. But this women’s day, we have a whole different reason to celebrate Kutch. Ever since the earthquake caused most of the men to lose their livelihoods, it was the steely grit of the women that have saved the culture and community of the region. Envisioned by a woman, Kala Raksha, an NGO empowered the women to earn a livelihood by marketing their traditional skills, design and embroidery in this case. It is the women that today hold their heads high, having saved both their culture and their economy helping the community to thrive in uncertain times. This is a story of empowered everyday women, making the world a better place.
